How to use ChatGPT in your Research Phase

I dropped an Instagram post of mine into ChatGPT and asked it this question:

"Describe the tone of voice and personality of the author of this text: [post copy]"

Here's what it said:

"The tone of voice and personality of the author of this text is informative, inspiring, and motivational. The author's use of rhetorical questions engages the reader and encourages them to think critically about their work. The use of the heart emoji at the end of the text also conveys a sense of positivity and connection."

Yea, thanks ChatGPT. I’ll take that 😘

I love using AI in the research & understanding phase of my work.

I've started using it to:

- Get perspectives
- Get descriptions
- Give you personas
- Get personality traits
- Summarise opinions

...and so much more.

Obviously, the information it generates isn’t always right or unbiased, so you have to take what it says with a pinch of salt. This is why it is so important to carefully choose the words you are using in your prompts. (Do the creative prompt below to understand why).

And, I've also discovered that ChatGPT is fairly complimentary. In fact, in order to get a critique you have to ask it to critique – it won't just give constructive or honest criticism without being prompted first.

So my creative prompt for you today is this:

1. Go to ChatGPT

2. Drop in some writing you've done in the past. This could be anything from a blog post to a social media post.

3. Ask it the following question: "Describe the [tone of voice/personality/intention/perspective] of the author of this text: [post copy]" (choose one and delete the brackets)

4. Next, ask it this question: "Give constructive criticism of the [tone of voice/personality/intention/perspective of the author of this text: [post copy]"

5. Compare both responses. Which do you think is fairer and less biased?

Let me know how you get on!
